Raparin University Department of Civil Engineering on Thursday 18/4/2024 held a scientific workshop entitled [...]
(Enhancing Environmental Waste Management: Using Recycled Industrial Waste in Construction Materials in Kurdistan).
Chaired by the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering (Assist. Prof. Dr. Rawshan othman Ali ) at Raparin University on Thursday 18/4/2024 held a scientific workshop.
Three researchers participated in the conference by presenting their papers published in leading international journals. Araz Ahmad Hamza ). It is worth mentioning that Mr. Araz highlighted the problem of excess materials and losses in the cities and towns of Raparin region in factories and industrial places in the region and their solution through scientific means. The increase in municipal solid waste has caused environmental problems in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, The study reported the maximum GR for MSW in Sulaymaniyah City which was 1.20 Kg/Capita/day and the minimum GR for domestic solid waste in Erbil City was 0.65 Kg/Capita/day. In-addition, the amount of organic waste component (OWC) in Erbil, Halabja, Sulaymaniyah, Semel, Duhok, Qaladize, and Ranya Cities were 79.34 %, 58 %, 65 %, 65 %, 79 %, 75.1 %, and 67.05 %, respectively. The average GR and OWC were calculated to be 0.972 Kg/Capita/day and 71.91%, respectively. Consequently, all MSW disposal sites had great impact to the surrounding areas resulting in air, water, and soil contamination .Two other seminars were held on environmental problems and their solutions. Therefore, after the completion of our workshop, we reached several points that we will briefly discuss here:
- The workshop should be repeated at the ministry level by inviting the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Municipalities.
- The Ministry should work to conduct other scientific research based on these researches in order to fully solve the problems and go into implementation.
- Admission of master's and doctoral students in this field to solve the problems of Waste Material Management with high-level and accredited international research.
- Finally, the government should invite international companies in the field of recycling materials.
