Mustafa Alattar is a member of the American Geophysical Union, where he represents his research projects at its annual meetings. He worked as a research assistant and teacher assistant at Lehigh University. Prior to his career at Lehigh University, he worked as a teacher assistant at the Institute of Technology in Baghdad, Iraq. He taught Mathematics in the Department of Civil Engineering for the 2013 academic year. Besides his academic experience, Mustafa worked as CAD Engineer for the Japanese international engineering consulting firm (Nippon Koei Co., Ltd.) in 2014. He worked on the communication network development project for major cities in Iraq.
In his presentation, Dr. Mustafa highlighted the significant role of remote sensing and GIS technology in modern surveying practices. He emphasized how remote sensing tools, like satellites and aerial cameras, enable surveyors to gather data from a distance, providing insights into the Earth's surface and its features. Dr. Mustafa also discussed how GIS technology helps organize and analyze this data, allowing surveyors to create detailed maps and make informed decisions about land use and resource management. Not only surveyors, but also the military, health care, agriculture, etc. Overall, he stressed that integrating these technologies enhances surveying accuracy, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
