Tishk University organized Fiber Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition [...]
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the Civil Engineering Department of Tishk International University, in collaboration with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Student Chapter, organized a scientific competition titled "Fiber Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition."
This competition brought together civil engineering students from nine universities, with a total of 150 participants divided into 32 teams. Each team prepared two concrete bowling ball samples incorporating fiber reinforcement.
Objective of the Competition
The main goal of this competition was to challenge civil engineering students to design high-quality, durable, and strong concrete that could withstand the highest possible external forces. This competition provided students with an opportunity to enhance their expertise in producing high-performance concrete while also allowing future engineers to showcase their skills in a competitive environment.
Competition Process
This annual event at Tishk International University spans two weeks, allowing universities sufficient time to design and produce their concrete samples. The concrete bowling balls were evaluated based on several criteria, including:
- Weight and composition
- Bowling performance (rolling ability and impact resistance)
- Compression strength tests
A panel of judges assessed the results, and the teams with the highest scores were awarded.
Winners of the Competition 🏆
🥇 First Place: University of Raparin
🥈 Second Place: Tishk International University – Erbil
🥉 Third Place: University of Duhok
